[Help?] Questions regarding instruction booklets and boxes..

First of all, I must congratulate you people for making this such a lovely community! I feel very welcome here even if I cannot speak french! So yeah, be patience with me and use google translate to run it in french. :)

Now, I will jump directly to my "questions", as I got directions from Will to contact you, since your english is better than his...

1: What kind of paper quality do you use to make and to print out NES instruction manuals? I want to have my instruction manuals / booklets as close to the original old booklets for NES as I possibly can.

2: Is there a preset in photoshop that you use for making the instruction manuals for NES? Do you have something like special settings or even .psd-files that you use when you are creating NES manuals / booklets?

3: Do you use scans of original manuals to copy the text and artwork directly into photoshop?

4: You know the european boxes for games such as "Ice Climber" (the small box) - Were those boxes created by glueing the artwork/boxart onto that gray "gris flanelle" paper (as on the tutorial video), or were they printed out directly WITH the artwork already on the paper?

5: When you take a look at this picture of an original SNES-box: http://imageupper.com/gi/?galID=S020001 ... 58&n=1&m=4 - You can clearly see there is a visible paperline that is a part of the fold of the box (as I have marked out). Do you see how big that line is on the original box contra the line on the custom box, as seen on this picture: http://imageupper.com/gi/?galID=S020001 ... 58&n=3&m=4 - The box to the left is the original SNES SCN-box. HOW do one get that line as visible as it is on the original box?

6: What kind of paper is used for the original NES? Because there is a big difference on the thickness on the box papers, as you can see on this picture: http://imageupper.com/gi/?galID=S020001 ... 58&n=2&m=4 - What kind of paper quality must I have to get as close to the original as possible? Any ideas?

There. Major thanksies in advance for helping out! :)

My help for the site is to provide scans. At least that is something that a newbie like me can do.. ;)
Did you know that "brofist" in the Netherlands is called "box"? How convenient that is...

Exocil, do you have some problems with English texts???

I'll try to answer you :

1 : He don't know what type of paper he uses, He went to a professional printer with an original manual and ha asked to make the same quality.

2 : Exocil has just print one manual : Zelda Ancient stone tablets, and I make it with photoshop, all assembly manually (the first page with the last page....).

3 : It's a custom manual, so all was created manually

4 : Sorry I don't understand what you say

5 : For the black seal, He prints it on clear paper, and you can use aluminium paper for the text

Sorry for my bad english, if you don't understand something, ask me, I'll try to explain it better... ;)

Hi damois !

I will try to bring my little knowledges if it helps ;)

1. As far as I know, there is no perfect paper in stores to be able to print in both sides, without having the ink to pass through it :/
If you want to print many booklets, you should try heading to a professionnal printer and show him the result you want, and what his price would be.

2. The website aleary gives you the ability to download a zip file containing oredered pages ready to print. Select the "Download for printing purpose" button.

3. Woops, maybe I have merged topics too fast. I don't understand what Spiral booklet is talking about. But if the booklet is named as a custom, then it is an original creation. If it is named by a world region, event restored it remains the same as the scanned one.

4. +1, don't see the point

5. You have 2 options to achieve that. First, you have enough money to buy you something like that (sorry I don't know how this is called in english) :
Image
Or, you can use and empty pen, or something else hard and edge rounded, and then press it along to a rule to get the mark. But be carefull not to cut the box, and use a paper between the box and the pen to avoid scratching the ink.

6. You have also many options here:
- Use a 330g/m² inkjet photo paper
- Enhance the result with a protective transparent sticker (used for children school books for instance).
- Use a printable sticker and buy a thick paper to glue the sticker to it.
- Go to a professionnal printer and ask him for papers and price. We found some professionnal printers here in Frane with the same king of paper as guenuine boxes, and for a price less than 2 Euros per box !

Gook luck, and enjoy making your boxes.

THANKS for the reply, guys! :)

But as I have mentioned before, you may go ahead and write in french as I am sharing a flat with friends who knows french. It is just me who must write in english. You can answer me in french. I am sure that is way easier for you guys.

But yeah, I am very grateful for the answers you have given. At least you give it an honest try. :)
