Improve stickers' images

Postby AleMasca » 07 December 2016, 22:33

Hi guys, i was working on a pokemon's label (scanned in 600 dpi) with Photoshop when i noticed that in the image i could see lots of dithering.
This is due to the scanning operation of an old printed images. I can see that also the pokemon's stickers image on this website have the same problem. Looks for example here:

I don't have any kind of sotware in my scanner to avoid this problem and i would like to solve it with Photoshop and reach this result:

I think that i have to do a descreening operation (if this is the correct name. In italian is called "Deretinatura"), but i really don't know hot to do. Can someone please tell me how to do? I would really appreciate it. Maybe in future i could help other people here with some stickers.

Thanks a lot to everyone and sorry for language mistake.

Hello,

Well, I don't know if there is a magical tool to blur only the background, and keep the lines of the main character sharp.
I think for the pokemon blue everything as been cleaned separately.

Maybe someone else would have a better answer :?

The magic tool you're looking for is called "luminance", or "reduce noise".

You can use "reduce noise" in photoshop (http://www.photoshopessentials.com/phot ... uce-noise/) but I prefer using "luminance" in Lightroom.

The result is a "plastic" image, as you reported with the Pokemon blue edition. I'm personnaly not ok with that, mostly because the original one does not look so flat (http://www.fullyretro.com/product/pokem ... n,45877385).

Moreover, as you can see, the yellow one also has small dots (http://nintendo-museum.fr/pokemon-version-jaune-2000/).

So if you want to be as close as the original as possible, you have to use the stamp (?) tool in photoshop. Witch is very long. Good luck ;)
